PUBLISHER: James Holmes, with Colnaghi and R Ackermann
DATE: January 1st 1829
METHOD: Line engraving
IMAGE SIZE: 520mm by 380mm to platemark
NOTES: A grand big print of King George the Fourth, before that the Prince Regent. A very good strong impression, painted and engraved by James Holmes. Our photo to be honest does not do justice to this fine print, and if you would like a full size image file just email us. The print has a full inscription which has not photographed very well either, as follows,
“To The King’s Most Excellent Majesty
THIS PORTRAIT OF HIS MOST GRACIOUS MAJESTY KING GEORGE THE FOURTH
Is by Permission Most Respectfully dedicated By His Majesty’s most devoted Subject & Servant
Considering the bad press that George IV gets, this print makes him look like quite an affable chap!
CONDITION: Very good, trimmed quite close to the platemark, but 5 to 6 mm all round. The print has been lightly cleaned and deacidified.
