AFTER/ARTIST:     Pugin, with figures by Rowlandson
PUBLISHER:     Rudolph Ackermann
DATE:     1st April 1809
METHOD:     Etching, with aquatint by Stadler
IMAGE SIZE:     8.75 inches  by  10.5 inches to platemark

NOTES:     Classic Ackermann print most likely from the ‘Microcosm of London’ entitled ‘Quakers Meeting’, but regrettably the building is not identified. ‘Plate 64’ in top right, published from Ackermann’s 101 The Strand premises.
For this  series, the architecture was drawn by Pugin and the figures by Rowlandson. This print did not give Richardson too much scope - very fine people the Quakers, but it must be said that they look quite serious even in Rowlandson’s hands!
For a history of the Ackermann business, John Ford’s ‘Ackermann 1783 - 1983’, published by Ackermann’s themselves to celebrate their bicentenary, is invaluable.

CONDITION:     Very good, original colour hand washed over the aquatint.
