NOTES: This is a most attractive set of TWELVE small prints by the well known Seventeenth Century artist, Israel Silvestre. They show views of France and Italy, including castles and churches. They look like real places, for example one shows the bridge at Tivoli, another is of the Tower at the Port of Marseilles! Some of the descriptions are a bit vague. Silvestre was a prolific print maker, and there is an enormous amount of information about him on the Silvestre Family website at http://israel.silvestre.free.fr This set is illustrated and listed as set 20, also the numbering from the standard catalogue raisonne by L E Faucheux, No 20, 1 - 12. The prints are quite small, but would look most attractive framed up as we have shown as 3 by 4 prints or 2 by 6 prints. NB These are not stuck down - just laid out neatly against the green background.
CONDITION: The prints are in very good condition, and have been professionally cleaned and de-acidified. They are trimmed with narrow thread margins, some with the platemark, in other places this is trimmed off. They are unmounted. Please note on the illustrations that print 12 has a brownish mark. On the original we can assure you that this hardly shows - as often seems to happen with photography, this very faint discolouration has been exaggerated in the process.
