NOTES:     A fascinating and historically most interesting print of Kirton-in-Holland Parish Church, dedicated to the then Vicar, the Rev Francis Swan.
The print is particularly interesting, as in 1804/05, much of the Church was demolished, and assumed its present form. The large transepts were swept away, and the tower was totally rebuilt to the west end. Perhaps the print was specially prepared or commissioned, as this demolition was in the offing? The foreground detail of coaches and horses is also most interesting.
The print is also very interesting, as being locally produced by W and H Burgess, of Fleet, the engraving being by the wonderfully named Hilkiah. Mackenzie lists William Burgess, and indeed this very print is illustrated, being from ‘Views of Churches in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire, 1800 - 05’. However, the print is clearly attributed to H Burgess, with the full name Hilkiah appearing above.

CONDITION:     Very good, with wide margins, professionally conserved.
