PRINT BY: Joseph Halfpenny AFTER/ARTIST: Joseph Halfpenny PUBLISHER: Margaret and Charlotte Halfpenny, York DATE: 1817 METHOD: Etching, possibly with some line engraving IMAGE SIZE: 11.75 inches by 15.75 inches to platemark
NOTES: A fine print of this Church in the village of Tickhill, near Doncaster in South Yorkshire. The Church is described by Pevsner as “The proudest parish church in the West Riding,....”. Tickhill is also known for its Castle remains. The print is by the hand of Joseph Halfpenny, the York artist and print maker (1748 - 1811). Published in York by his daughters, some years after his death, this seems to have been issued as a single print. It is listed in Boyne, print 380. Mackenzie mentions a series of ‘Yorkshire Churches’, c 1816 - 17, although only a handful of such prints are mentioned in Boyne.
CONDITION: Very good, a little light foxing along the bottom, but mostly outside the platemark. Some old fold marks in the top RH corner, but not affecting the print in anyway.
